A career built on growth and a calling built on conviction.
I'm Donyel Johnson a Certified Fund Raising Executive with 15+ years in philanthropic growth and over $30M closed across education, humanitarian relief, advocacy, and community-based organizations.
Before Ascendant, I held titles like Vice President of Development, Chief Development Officer, and Senior Director of Philanthropic Growth. I've built fundraising pipelines from scratch, closed seven-figure gifts, and led the strategy behind capital campaigns, major gift programs, and grant portfolios.
But the work that shaped me most wasn't a title. It was founding Steps for Austin a sensory-friendly nonprofit named after my son. I built it from zero. I know what it feels like to carry a mission and a calendar and a budget that doesn't quite stretch. I know the 11 PM strategy sessions and the spreadsheets that outgrow themselves.
